For 44 years Tom has been a true Texas trial lawyer. After only six years of practice, Tom had the good trial fortune of becoming board certified in civil trial law, a certification he held for 38 years. Representing individuals, businesses, and governmental entities, Tom has tried cases both to juries and to the bench on both sides of the docket in federal and state courts in Texas and elsewhere.
Tom's practice has been broad-based, but much of his career has concentrated on all manner of business torts, professional liability issues, and oil and gas disputes. Most of his career has been in private practice, serving as a partner in a large Dallas-based law firm and then as managing partner of an Austin-based trial firm with offices in Austin, Dallas and Houston. When he was tapped to lead trial teams defending the State of Texas in complex class action cases, Tom spent a ten-year stint in public service with the Office of the Attorney General. There he served first as Director of Complex Litigation, then Chief of the General Litigation Division, and finally as Senior Advisor to the Attorney General. Stone Hilton’s exciting and important docket enticed Tom to return to the courtroom.
